Allegations of Research Misconduct

Jambura Journal of Community Empowerment (JJCE) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of research integrity, publication ethics, and academic accountability. The journal takes all allegations of research misconduct seriously and handles them fairly, confidentially, and objectively, following established publication ethics principles and applicable institutional policies.

Types of Research Misconduct

Research misconduct may include, but is not limited to:

  1. Fabrication: Making up research data, results, or findings and reporting them as genuine.

  2. Falsification: Manipulating research materials, equipment, processes, data, or results in a way that misrepresents the research.

  3. Plagiarism: Using another person's ideas, words, data, or work without appropriate acknowledgment.

  4. Duplicate or redundant publication: Publishing substantially overlapping work without proper disclosure or justification.

  5. Authorship misconduct: Inappropriate attribution or omission of authorship, including unauthorized authorship claims.

  6. Peer-review manipulation: Interfering with or attempting to manipulate the peer-review process.

  7. Ethical violations: Conducting research without required ethical approval or consent, or otherwise violating applicable research ethics requirements.

  8. Undisclosed conflicts of interest: Failing to disclose relevant financial, professional, or personal interests that could influence the research or its evaluation.

Honest errors or differences in scientific interpretation do not, by themselves, constitute research misconduct.

Reporting Allegations

Anyone who suspects research misconduct involving a manuscript submitted to or an article published in JJCE may report the concern to the journal editor. Reports should provide sufficient details and, where available, supporting evidence to enable an appropriate assessment.

All allegations will be treated confidentially to the extent possible. The journal does not tolerate retaliation against individuals who raise concerns in good faith.

Investigation Procedure

Upon receiving an allegation, the Editor-in-Chief or a designated editor will conduct a preliminary assessment to determine whether the concern falls within the journal's responsibility and whether further action is warranted.

Where appropriate, the journal may:

  1. Request an explanation or relevant documentation from the author(s).

  2. Consult editorial board members or independent experts.

  3. Contact the author's affiliated institution or relevant research integrity body when institutional investigation is necessary.

  4. Suspend editorial processing or publication while a serious allegation is being assessed.

  5. Take appropriate editorial action based on the available evidence and the outcome of the assessment.

The journal will provide the parties concerned with a fair opportunity to respond. Editorial decisions will be based on the available evidence, the seriousness of the concern, and applicable ethical standards. The journal will not publicly characterize an allegation as proven before an appropriate assessment has been completed.

Possible Outcomes

Depending on the findings and the stage of publication, possible actions may include:

  • Dismissal of an allegation when it is unsupported.

  • Request for correction, clarification, or additional information.

  • Rejection of a manuscript.

  • Publication of a correction, expression of concern, or retraction of a published article, as appropriate.

  • Notification of the relevant institution, publisher, or other appropriate body when warranted.

Any correction, expression of concern, or retraction will be handled transparently and in accordance with applicable publication ethics guidance.

Confidentiality and Fair Treatment

JJCE will protect the confidentiality of allegations, supporting documents, and investigation communications as far as reasonably possible and consistent with a fair investigation. Information will be shared only with individuals or organizations that have a legitimate role in assessing or resolving the concern.

The journal seeks to protect the rights of complainants and the individuals accused of misconduct while safeguarding the integrity of the scholarly record.

Policy Review

JJCE may review and update this policy as necessary to reflect developments in publication ethics, research integrity standards, and applicable regulations.
