Correction and Retraction Policy

1. General Principles

Jambura Elementary Education Journal (JEEJ) is committed to maintaining the accuracy, credibility, transparency, and integrity of the scholarly literature published in the fields of elementary education, teaching and learning, curriculum development, and educational research.

The journal recognizes that errors or ethical concerns may be identified after an article has been published. Therefore, JEEJ establishes procedures for correcting, investigating, and, when necessary, retracting published articles in accordance with the ethical guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE).

The primary purpose of this policy is to ensure the reliability of the scholarly record and maintain public trust in academic publications.

2. Corrections

JEEJ may issue a correction when errors are identified in a published article that do not substantially affect the validity of its research findings or conclusions.

Corrections may include:

  1. Errors in author information, institutional affiliations, or acknowledgments.

  2. Inaccuracies in tables, figures, or statistical calculations that do not invalidate the principal findings.

  3. Incorrect references, citations, or bibliographic information.

  4. Editorial or production errors that may affect the interpretation of the article.

  5. Other unintentional errors requiring clarification or amendment.

All significant corrections will be reviewed by the editorial team and, where appropriate, published as formal correction notices linked to the original articles.

3. Retractions

JEEJ may retract a published article when substantial evidence indicates that its findings, conclusions, or publication process are seriously compromised.

Grounds for retraction may include:

  1. Fabrication or Falsification: Evidence of fabricated, manipulated, or misrepresented research data or findings.

  2. Plagiarism: Substantial unauthorized use of another individual's intellectual work without appropriate acknowledgment.

  3. Duplicate Publication: Publication of substantially similar research findings elsewhere without proper disclosure, attribution, or justification.

  4. Unethical Research Practices: Serious violations of research ethics, including the absence of required ethical approval or informed consent.

  5. Major Research Errors: Significant methodological, analytical, or statistical errors that render the research findings unreliable.

  6. Compromised Publication Process: Evidence of manipulated peer review or other serious violations of publication ethics.

Retraction decisions will be made by the Editor-in-Chief or the responsible editorial authority following an appropriate investigation and consideration of available evidence.

4. Expressions of Concern

When serious concerns arise regarding the reliability or ethical integrity of a published article, but the available evidence is inconclusive or an investigation remains ongoing, JEEJ may publish an Expression of Concern.

An Expression of Concern is intended to inform readers about unresolved issues without prematurely concluding that research misconduct has occurred.

The notice may be updated or replaced by a correction or retraction following the outcome of the investigation.

5. Correction and Retraction Procedures

JEEJ applies the following procedures when handling potential corrections or retractions:

  1. Reporting: Authors, readers, reviewers, or other parties may report suspected errors or ethical concerns to the editorial team.

  2. Preliminary Assessment: The editorial team evaluates the reported issues and determines whether further investigation is necessary.

  3. Author Clarification: The corresponding author and other relevant parties may be contacted to provide explanations, supporting evidence, or additional documentation.

  4. Editorial Investigation: The editorial team reviews the available evidence and may consult independent experts or relevant institutions.

  5. Editorial Decision: Based on the findings, the journal may issue a correction, publish an Expression of Concern, retract the article, or determine that no further action is required.

  6. Publication of Notice: Any formal correction or retraction notice will clearly identify the affected article, explain the reasons for the editorial action, and provide a link to the original publication.

All procedures will be conducted fairly, transparently, and in accordance with established publication ethics standards.

6. Accessibility and Transparency

JEEJ is committed to maintaining a transparent and accessible scholarly record.

Retracted articles will generally remain accessible in the journal's electronic archives but will be clearly marked as "Retracted" to inform readers of their publication status.

Correction and retraction notices will be made publicly available and electronically linked to the original articles whenever technically possible.

The journal will ensure that readers can identify the nature and reasons for any correction or retraction.

7. Authors' Responsibilities

Authors are expected to promptly notify the editorial team if they discover significant errors or inaccuracies in their published work.

Authors must cooperate with editorial investigations, provide relevant supporting documentation, and participate in appropriate corrective actions.

Failure to cooperate with legitimate editorial inquiries may result in additional editorial measures in accordance with publication ethics guidelines.

8. Editorial Responsibility

The editorial team of JEEJ is responsible for evaluating reported concerns objectively and determining appropriate corrective actions.

Editorial decisions will prioritize the integrity of the scholarly record, fairness to all parties, and the protection of readers from potentially unreliable research findings.

Retractions are intended to correct the scientific literature rather than to punish authors.

9. Ethical Guidelines

This policy is developed with reference to the following internationally recognized publication ethics guidelines:

  1. Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). Retraction Guidelines (2025). https://doi.org/10.24318/cope.2019.1.4
